Not having been here for some days, I have got a kinds sense of guilty. I feel responsible to put down what I have experienced in the past few days since my topic is so-called "that is life" by which means the babble on my daily life.

Different from my friends around me, Friday is the busiest day on which I have twice the amount of the usual workload. Last Friday can not be a lucky one, so I got the heaviest work of the week. Besides, a meeting was to be held on that night, which made my past Friday even busier. Nothing worth mentioning happened except that I had a lousy day because of a cold. I had had a dry and sore throat the day before and I did go to see a doctor getting some golden throat lozenges and some herbal tea because I have clearly known that the sore throat is the first symptom of having a cold. I thought the doctor is a quack, because she seemed to know nothing about the cold and gave me some medicine casually, without any examining. What was worse was that the cold I got this time came unbelievably ferociously. The medicine given on Thursday night did not work on me so once again I entered the infirmary on Friday morning asking for some Kuai Ke, a cold medicine which as far as I know is the most effective cure for colds for me, and some anti-inflammation pills.

I was anxious to recover from the cold so I took one pill of cold medicine before going for siesta, two more before I went to bed on Friday night, one again on Saturday morning before going to work and one more after lunch. I was dazed with sleep totally for a whole day, from the midday of Friday to that of Saturday, because of the heavy medical intake. Work and sufferings form the cold occupied all my attention on Friday. I didn’t have to work on Saturday morning so I slept in, not getting up until an alarm clock struck eight. After finishing all the washings and cleanings and breakfast as well as medicine, I meant to read some prose. But I felt sleepy the moment I touched the book. So I went back to date with Duke of Zhou again. It was a sound sleep. I started to realize things when the alarm clock went off 13:30, reminding me that I had to get up and went to work, which was divided into two parts and lasted about two hours, including the time spent on the way from my dorm to the workplace, back and forth. Everything went smoothly for the first part of the work, however, I suddenly lost my sight for a few seconds nearly at the end of the latter part of the work, then I just could not see anything clear. I wanted to stop what I was doing but had to carry on on the account that I was being observed by one superior guy at that moment. Poor me was awkward as awkwardness itself could be.

Later on, I went to see the doctor for the third time and I was told that it might be the high fever that made my eyes blurred and I had to be put on a drip. Luckily, my sister happening to come to Tiantai kept me company when I was on the drip, greatly lessening my loneliness and unhappiness. Then we went to a restaurant featuring Sichuan cuisine, having four a la carte dishes, one of which is water spinach with a little bit of smashed garlic, another is cuttlefish boiled in spicy water, one more is preserved duck egg mixed with green peppers and the last one is braised eggplant, a soup with cucumber and vermicelli made from bean starch, and two herbal tea. After that, we walked to a supermarket right next to the restaurant, buying some crackers, potato chips, jellies, chocolates, bugles, ball cakes, skittles, chrysanthemum tea, honeysuckle tea, preserved plum, dried fish bone and coffee. Having enjoyed such a happy time, we went back home. It was not yet too late but I went to sleep earlier than usual for the cold sake. Before falling asleep I made a deal with my sister of going to a tangerine orchard early in the next morning. Unfortunately I could not manage to for the reason that I didn’t feel like getting up early and my sister would go back to her working place at 9:40. I fell to be a total idler again the second I saw my sister off.

Intended to do nothing but idled away the rest of the good day, I planned to go shopping. I am by no means a shopping maniac, but I did buy a pair of blue jeans, ranking the ninth in the clothing I bought in the recent twenty days. I must have been out of my mind. I went to have lunch with one of my friend at an eatery advertising itself as the 118th chain store of Auntie’ Dumplings but found the dumplings I got were soiled with soot. I had nothing on cleanliness and health grounds. I had lots of snacks in the dorm, which greatly satisfy my appetite. I had a kiwi fruit, two crabapples, and some crackers. Two handfuls of sunflower seeds added in a few minutes after the previous nibbles in the name of lunch is a result of my hoarse voice deep into the afternoon. But strangely at that moment I didn’t have the least impression that I should not touch any kind of food of a hot or warm nature according to the traditional Chinese medical science. Like a piggy, I went to bed and closed my eyes again after having had my fill. I meant to have forty winks but more than eighty instead. When my friend called to dinner I was still lying, enjoying nothing. We went for three a la carte dishes, namely, sheet jelly cooked with a bit of mince, kidney beans stir-fried whit a little bit smashed garlic, lettuce mixed up with egg dumplings the wrapper of which is made of egg and the filling is from mince and chives, and a soup with egg and pieces of tomatoes. We filled ourselves as soon as possible for she was supposed to go back before 18:00.

Dinner ‘s being over means a day’s over as well as the weekend is over. So I returned home, did some preparation work for the following weekdays and went to bed earlier because I would be an early bird again on Monday morning.

Monday morning was abnormally busy for I had delayed some work the week before due to the unwelcome cold. Even though I totally know procrastination is the thief of time, I had to postpone something for not being strong enough. It was a rare case. I hardly ever put off till tomorrow what should be done today.

Everything turned out regular except I had cups of tea with lots of sterculia seeds soaked in, a few golden throat lozenges and cough syrup on Tuesday.

Today is another normal day, not having appeared any extraordinary signs except medical care continuing. I am waiting for a miracle putting an end to my pedestrian life.

|
