Many Westerners remember Deng as "a little man with great ideas". He is famous for his practical and direct manner, shown in famous <I>slogans</I> (口号) such as "No matter if it is a white cat or a black cat; a cat that can catch rats is a good cat" and "poverty is not socialism".
