<p><strong></strong>&nbsp;</p><p></p><p>安那州的德尔希(Delhi)，是他父母的私生子。迪姆-麦克格朗12岁前一直不知道他的亲生父亲是谁，18岁之前和塔格-麦克格朗没有来往。他在学校用他继父的姓，叫迪姆-史密斯(Tim Smith)。麦克格朗回忆说：“我继父是一名卡车司机，我五六岁时他带着我长途跋涉去德克萨斯。他喜欢乡村音乐，在车上老唱，我也坐在位置上扯开嗓子跟他一起唱。”十几岁时，麦克格朗足球和棒球都玩得不错，看来他要走亲生父亲当职业运动员的道路了。到他进入露易丝安娜东北大学(NortheastLouisia <br/>na University)时，膝盖受伤，运动生涯受阻，兴趣转向音乐。他得到一把吉他在当地开始独唱演麦克格朗就象他的棒球明星父亲塔格-麦克格朗(Tug McGraw)一样，擅长于体育i但他唱歌，弹吉他还要好。1989年麦克格朗到了纳希维尔(Nashville)，出了首张专辑《迪姆-麦克格朗》和三张上榜单张，但没有进入前40名。他的第二张专辑《这时刻不要太快》，推出了两首可说是确定他命运的上榜歌曲，并使这张专辑成为“白金唱片”，确立了麦克格朗的顶尖歌星的地位。<br/>&nbsp;</p><p></p><p>
